What is love?

Mommy, what is love?
Love is something warm, like bread my dear
you work it and mold it, and watch it carefully
so it doesn’t burn.
The best love is love you allow time to rise,
and time to cook,
the eating is the reward,
but the parts that come before
makes it something a tummy longs for.

Daddy, what is love?
It’s like a car, my sweet
it starts out new and shiny,
and if loved right,
and cared for,
it sustains it’s beauty
even as the seats grow worn
and the tires need replaced.
If you tend it,
repair what gets broken,
or changes,
it stays classic
and timelessly adored.

Bex, what is love?
Love is a song, a poem,
a well-loved book.
You don’t just own it
it owns you,
becomes something that defines,
who you are,
and what you are about.
You love what loves you,
even when you are not sure
where the song is leading,
how the poem will be received,
or how the story ends.
