Leaf me on the sidewalk

A tired foot leads me forward
angling to be somewhat more
than footsore and forgotten.

I wander sometimes
in my tennis shoes.
Mystical thinking
that nudges reality.

There are leaves on my path
reminding me of times passage.
Worn leaves are somewhat beautiful
in their weathered state.
They remind me that I am still more
than a simple faded dream.

I have been places
and I will rest
but I am just beginning
though, my heart falls from trees
and my slick surface has given way
to cracks and seams.

I have lived a life of growth
and change.
Have learned how fragile my leaves are
and still managed to stretch my branches outward
despite the wind
despite the rain
despite the sun.

There is something somewhat beautiful
about growing old.
