Cynic

Let go that lick of satire.
Embrace the truth of your other side
most frighteningly forgotten
in the rush to appear jaded.

You once believed in magic.
Waited up to see Santa.
Believed Angels existed.
Understood animals
and atmospheres.

Lift your eyes
from discouraged memories.
Open your heart to wonder
and wonderful.
Balance that cynicism
with a new depth of acceptance.

Accept that eyes that once trusted all
are now believing nothing.
Time to acquire balance.
Cultivate belief
in love, in joy,
in simple wishes.

You are your own dream
waiting to be dreamt.

That line jumped out at me, I think because it suggests we don’t (and maybe can’t) change ourselves completely. We don’t have to become someone else, but we can become more of who we are. Thank you for that, Bekki.

  2. Exactly. There is nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to truly being the self that we are. We often cannot seem to forgive ourselves for being somewhat dorky and broken. You are Welcome Charles. Thank you for noticing and understanding me. It makes me feel seen and as we both know, being seen is all we need in life to get through the hard stuff.
