“You’re skins much too dark and you have nappy hair!”
They laughed in her face, they spit in her eye,

She lifted her chin, and put steel in her spine.
“Ain’t nobody gonna tell me which future is mine!”
She equated herself, with the strength of a tree.
Made her mind and her manner as fierce as the sea.
Built her castle foundation on fertile, firm ground.

She grew and she grew, like a determined old tree.
“Ain’t nobody gonna tell me, who I’m meant to be!”

Something that no one had ever encountered before.
Her skin was still dark, and her hair just as nappy,
but she had become incredibly…happy.
Her eyes how they sparkled, her smile was soo warm,
Her laugh was a shelter that challenged the storm.
Her patience was longer than a person could measure.
and her voice was a thing of great soothing and pleasure.
She stood before her children and told them all that she’d seen
“If they won’t call you princess, then show them you’re Queen!
